FAQ

Miss Tuttti and Frutti Barber were sisters who lived together. They had a cellar and were republicans. They were from Clanton, Alabama and moved to Maycomb in 1911. They were both deaf, but one of them denied it.

One Halloween, Scout and her friends went into their house and put all of their furniture in their cellar (their house was the only one with a cellar). The two deaf women said they heard people running around the house and making a lot of noise, but we know that isn't possible because they were deaf. They had hounds come to try to sniff the burglars out, but the dogs kept running to the cellar. All the children wore their shoes (which was unusual) because they thought that having their shoes on would keep the hounds from being able to smell them.
